TradingView Indicators for Crypto Trading
TradingView indicators are formulas drawn on a chart from price and volume, such as the RSI, the VWAP and the volume profile. No single indicator is the best. Pick one for each question your plan needs answered, about trend, momentum, volume or volatility, and pair every signal with a stop and a position size.
The Four Jobs an Indicator Can Do
Every indicator is a formula run on past prices, volume or both, then drawn on the chart. Some sit on top of the candles as an overlay, like a moving average or the VWAP. Others get their own pane under the chart, like the RSI.
Sort them by the question they answer and the choice gets simpler. Trend tools ask which way price is going. Momentum tools ask how hard it is pushing. Volume tools ask where the trading actually happened. Volatility tools ask how far price usually moves.
Two indicators from the same family mostly tell you the same thing twice. One from each family you actually use beats five that agree with each other.

Popular Indicators by Family
These are the built-in indicators traders reach for most. Each one is available on TradingView.
| Family | Question It Answers | Common Examples | Where It Sits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trend | Which way is price going? | Moving averages (simple and exponential), the VWAP | Overlay |
| Momentum | How strong is the push? | RSI, MACD, stochastic | Pane |
| Volume | Where did the trading happen? | Volume profile, VWAP, volume bars | Overlay or pane |
| Volatility | How far does price usually move? | ATR (average true range), Bollinger Bands | Pane or overlay |
Support and resistance isn't an indicator, but it belongs on every chart before any of these. Our support and resistance guide shows how to draw the levels first.
Is There a Best TradingView Indicator?
No, and anyone who sells one as the best is selling. Every indicator is calculated from prices that already happened, so it reacts to the market rather than predicting it. What an indicator can do is organize what price is already telling you, so you make the same decision the same way every time.
A better question is which indicator answers the question your plan asks. If your plan is to buy pullbacks in an uptrend, a trend tool and a momentum tool do the job. If you trade intraday ranges, the VWAP and the volume profile matter more.
Whatever you use, the signal still needs a stop and a size. The position size calculator turns any setup into a position that only loses what you chose, and the win rate calculator shows what win rate a strategy needs at its risk to reward.
How to Test an Indicator Before You Trust It
- Use it on your market and timeframe. Settings that suit a daily Bitcoin chart can be noise on a 5-minute altcoin chart.
- Write down the rule. "RSI under 30 at support" is testable. "RSI looks low" is not.
- Count the losers too. Mark every time the rule fired, not only the times it worked.
- Keep the chart clean. Add one indicator at a time and remove anything you don't act on.

How to Add or Remove an Indicator on TradingView
Adding a built-in takes a few seconds. Invite-only indicators take one extra step, because the author has to give your username access first.
Open the Indicators Menu
On any chart, open Indicators at the top of the screen and search by name, such as Relative Strength Index or VWAP.
Click to Add
Click the result and the indicator loads on the chart, as an overlay or in its own pane.
Find Invite-Only Scripts in Their Own Tab
Once an author gives you access, an Invite-only scripts tab appears in the same menu. If it's missing, you haven't been given access yet.
Change or Remove It From the Legend
Open the chart legend with the arrow under the symbol name. The gear icon changes the settings, and the trash icon removes the indicator.
Questions People Ask
Short answers to what people search for most, in plain words.
What is the best TradingView indicator for crypto?
There isn't one best indicator. Choose by the question you need answered: a moving average for trend, the RSI for momentum, the VWAP or volume profile for volume, and the ATR for volatility. Test any rule on your own market and timeframe before you trust it.
How many indicators should I use?
Few. One indicator from each family you actually act on is usually enough. Two from the same family mostly repeat each other and make the chart harder to read.
Are TradingView indicators free?
The built-in indicators ship with TradingView. Invite-only indicators are different: access isn't included in any TradingView plan, and you get it from the script's author.
How do I remove an indicator on TradingView?
Open the chart legend with the arrow under the symbol name, then click the trash icon next to the indicator. The gear icon next to it opens the indicator's settings.
What are invite-only indicators on TradingView?
They are scripts published by users who decide which TradingView usernames can use them. They show a lock icon next to the title, the code is closed, and an Invite-only scripts tab appears in your Indicators menu once an author gives you access.
